Jamba, formerly known as Jamba Juice, is a quick service restaurant (QSR) chain specializing in juice and related foods. It’s owned by GoTo Foods, an affiliate of private equity firm Roark Capital Group, and so has the backing of a larger company and its resources, as well as the potential for cross-marketing with GoTo’s other food-related brands, but also the risks that come from the extractive side of private equity.
Juice has taken off in a big way since the brand was founded in 1990, and this is reflected in Jamba’s widespread presence across the US, with over 850 stores and a presence in most states. Its more recent renaming reflects a company that’s changing as the market changes, with the word “juice” being dropped both to reflect an expanded menu and to escape mounting health concerns around the negative side of juice. The expanded menu includes acai and oatmeal bowls, waffles, and other foods, letting Jamba compete for a larger part of the QSR market, and in particular for the lunchtime spending of health-conscious American workers.
The gaps in its national presence mean that there are still plenty of territories available, and the franchise is keen on expanding into them, with both single- or multi-unit options available, as well as a flexible store footprint that lets franchisees adjust to their circumstances. To ensure its continued growth, the company is looking for franchisees with executive or operations experience, so this is an option for a franchisee with some experience in leadership, rather than one setting up their first business venture.
