Since coming on board, Iāve been instrumental in helping grow the company to over 160 centers, either open or in development, expanding into fourteen states, and weāre now preparing to triple in size over the next five years, continuing our growth throughout the Mid-Atlantic region and beyond.
FC: Whatās driving franchise interest and conversions in 2025?
JD: Child care remains a critical need in nearly every community. With more dual-income households, return-to-office trends, and limited local availability, the demand for quality early education is outpacing supply, creating a prime opportunity for franchise growth. Todayās franchisees arenāt just chasing income, they want to make a difference.
Owning a Lightbridge Academy allows you to:

Child care is not a luxury; itās a necessity. In uncertain markets, it remains one of the most stable and resilient sectors, making it an attractive investment for long-term security.
FC: How is the landscape changing for multi-unit and multi-brand operators?
JD: Experienced franchisees are actively seeking complementary brands to hedge economic cycles and balance labor needs. Child care is rising as a strategic category, recession-resistant, essential, and with recurring revenue, offering stability to operators already in food, fitness, or home services. Many are pivoting from labor-heavy or saturated segments into purpose-driven, community-based models like Lightbridge Academy.

At Lightbridge Academy, before signing the franchise agreement, we provide all prospective franchisees with a list of preferred lenders and help to connect them with these lenders directly for one-on-one conversations. While we are never on these calls with the franchisee and lender, we help to connect them directly with the lender that best fits their needs. I recommend that any entrepreneur exploring franchise opportunities ask this question to the franchisors they are pursuing.
At Lightbridge Academy, youāre not starting from scratch. As a franchisee, you gain access to:
- A proven curriculum and operational playbook
- Marketing and enrollment systems
- Real estate and licensing guidance
- Ongoing training and coaching
FC: Are you foreseeing continued growth for the remainder of the year?
JD: Given that early education is an essential business year-round, it means there is no bad time to open a new center. We have a very strong pipeline for continued growth this year and look forward to meeting with new prospective franchisees at our Discovery Days.
As noted earlier, sophisticated operators are doubling down, either adding more locations of their existing brand or entering Lightbridge Academy for the first time. The second half of 2025 is expected to bring steady to accelerated growth for us, especially for well-capitalized, well-supported operators with a clear growth plan.
FC: What advice do you have for entrepreneurs who are interested in becoming franchisees?
JD: My main piece of advice is to do your research. When exploring potential franchisors, research their open and operating locations. Iād also recommend researching the franchisorās leadership and board of directors listed in the franchise disclosure document. Even if itās a simple LinkedIn search, this research will give you vital information on the background and experience they each bring to the table. I also recommend that those interested in getting their start in franchising hire a franchise attorney to review their franchise agreement.
Look beyond just profitability, ask yourself:
- Can I see myself in this space every day?
- Do I believe in the service or mission?
- Will this business be in demand 5ā10 years from now?
Lightbridge Academy offers both economic stability and community impact, ideal for purpose-driven entrepreneurs.
