12 Things You Need to Know About the Bottle & Bottega Franchise

Acquired by Painting with a Twist

1.  In mid-October 2018, Bottle & Bottega was acquired by Painting with a Twist, the original and largest paint and sip franchise. At the time of the acquisition, Bottle & Bottega had 20 locations in nine states. This strategic merger marks the DIY art industry’s first and cements Painting with a Twist’s position as the DIY art segment’s largest and most established brand.

2.  This strategic acquisition allows for a scalable approach to growth, adding resources to Bottle & Bottega franchisees and continuing Painting with a Twist’s strong growth trajectory in key markets, such as Chicago, Portland, and Northern California. Utilizing Painting with a Twist’s economies of scale, all studios will capitalize on the innovation Bottle & Bottega brings to this industry. While strengthening core systemwide operations, leaders of Painting with a Twist and Bottle & Bottega are aligned to be a force of innovation impacting the future of the DIY art industry.

3.  Joe Lewis, CEO of Painting with a Twist, said, “It was important for us to consolidate with a partner that recognizes our deep commitment to the DIY art sector. Bottle & Bottega shares this responsibility as an original pacesetter in the category with a strong record of consistent growth and innovative services. Together, we plan to amplify our strengths throughout the franchise system to best position us for long-term prosperity and continued delivery of an unparalleled experience to our guests.”

4.  To assist in facilitating a smooth transition through the acquisition, Painting with a Twist bolsters its leadership roster by adding seven-year paint and sip industry veteran and Bottle & Bottega co-founder and CEO, Nancy Bigley as chief operating officer. Bigley has a strong background in franchise operations and executive leadership having worked with Dunkin’ Brands, American Leak Detection, and The Dwyer Group.

5.  In her new position, Bigley is tasked with integrating the brands and increasing operations support and profitability to all of the combined system’s studios. Bigley said, “Painting with a Twist recognizes the unlocked potential of the DIY art industry and its core values directly correlate with Bottle & Bottega’s culture, business and processes. With strategic studio placement and ongoing franchisee support, we’ll continue to bring art to communities nationwide.”

Company History

10.  Bottle & Bottega was founded in 2009 by Stephanie King-Myers and Nancy Bigley in Chicago, Illinois. Bottle & Bottega was the city’s first paint and sip studio concept. Both King-Myers and Bigley left successful corporate careers to follow their passion. From the beginning, King-Myers and Bigley wanted to create a space that was elegant and beautiful, but also relaxed and comfortable for their guests. They also wanted to emphasize creativity and making lasting memories with friends and family.

11.  After the success of the first Bottle & Bottega location, King-Myers and Bigley started expanding the concept through national franchising in 2011. Over the next few years, Bottle & Bottega grew to about 20 locations and in the fall of 2018, the company was acquired by Painting with a Twist, the largest paint and sip franchise in the country. As part of the acquisition, Bigley, who was CEO of Bottle & Bottega, joined Painting with a Twist as the company’s chief operating officer.
