5 & Diner is an honest-to-goodness ‘50s-style family dining restaurant concept with an aggressive franchise growth plan to bring back the roadside diner experience across the United States.

Created by Ken Higginbotham in 1989, 5 & Diner has blossomed from a single location in Phoenix, Arizona to 12 locations in five states. The company is looking to attract new franchisees throughout the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions with a brand new prototype, updated menu and new leadership.

Featuring classic ‘50s décor elements like chrome, bright lights, juke boxes and open seating, 5 & Diner is attempting to grab a larger share of the $33 billion family dining market, as families demand more for less during these difficult economic times.

CEO Bob Watson, a former franchisee who bought the company with his wife Laurie Watson in 2008, has stated, “I want families across the country to know that 5 & Diner is an unparalleled diner experience. In my heart, I know there’s nothing out there like it. We are ready to fully embrace our growth plan and continue to show people what a diner should feel like.”

5 & Diner is launching a new prototype design, as well as a non-freestanding development option, to help lower development costs. The estimated initial investment for a single location ranges from $450,000 to $750,000 and the average unit sales volume is over $1.1 million.

The restaurant chain is consistently recognized for its commitment to maintaining a family-friendly dining experience where no alcohol is served. The restaurants also keep the spirit of the 50’s alive with locations regularly holding special events like car shows and sock hops. Customers love their Cadillac Meatloaf, Big Bopper Burger, Mrs. Cleaver’s Pot Roast and 5 & Diner’s famous malts and shakes.

5 & Diner is an affiliate of LPM Holding Company, a Maynard, Massachusetts-based food service company that is the 28th largest food service contractor in the nation and the largest independent corporate dining and catering company in the Northeast.
