What is ProTect Painters?

1.  The ProTect Painters franchise opportunity is a home-based, residential and light commercial painting business with a modest initial investment and low overhead. Franchise owners manage the business and their crews do the painting.

2. ProTect Painters was founded in 1994 by Wayne Scherger, a veteran of the painting industry since 1981.  In 2009, ProTect Painters was acquired by Service Brands International, the corporate parent of Molly Maid, Mr. Handyman, and 1-800-DryClean. In the first year under Service Brands, the number of franchise owners more than doubled.

3.  The painting industry generates more than $40 billion in annual sales, but the category is still dominated by independent contractors.

Having read this article, I wanted to provide information from one of the new owners that joined after the Service Brands acquisition.
I purchased my franchise in December 2010, decided to take my time setting up, and “officially” opened my business after my Right Start training in March of 2010. I planned this to be ready for the opening of the profitable “outdoor” season.
What I can tell you is that the training, the support and the ongoing improvements that Service Brands leads within our model have provided me with a business that I am proud to own and have found to be a wonderful way to earn a living. I have a manageable life work balance that I decide.
The sales training, the technology that we employ, and the ability to consult with other owners that are all focused helping each other become successful are incredible advantages I have over the start from scratch independent owner. This was exactly what I needed; I needed to step into a fully supported working model that I could proudly say has me more than doubling my sales in my second year. With growth to the level where I needed to hire help addressing my increase in business. How many start up businesses can say that in this economy? I would recommend this franchise to any professional looking to transition in a new direction.

      Hi Vince,

Thank you for your comment. It’s so nice to hear about your positive experience with ProTect Painters, and the growth your business is enjoying. I love hearing from actual franchisees, and I especially love it when the franchisee is happy with his or her investment. As you have proven, finding the right fit is key. All the best.

As one of the new ProTect owners it’s great to see the brand and the folks at Service Brands getting the recognition they both deserve. Based on my experience the numbers quoted above are spot on with what I’ve found. The opportunity for folks looking to jump into business ownership couldn’t be better with this brand. Service Brands provides exceptional training, infrastructure, technology, and ongoing marketing support to equip owners with the tools to start and run a successful service-oriented painting business. I am in my second year and on pace to just about double my sales. I recently hired someone to help with sales and project management and look forward to continued growth despite a relatively slow economoy. I couldn’t be happier with the support from Service Brands and with my decision to own a ProTect Painters business.

      Hi Dan,

It’s so refreshing to have another happy franchisee speak out in support of their franchisor. In my experience, it’s the dissatisfied owners who are most vocal on the blogs. Glad to have another confirmation that the franchising model works. Congratulations on the impressive growth of your business and may the momentum continue!

      Best regards,

      Ambrosio
