Capriotti’s Sandwich Shop Franchise Could Become Greatest Thing Since Sliced Bread

No. 8 Capriotti’s Sandwich Shop — Take one of America’s favorite holiday meals, squish it between a freshly baked roll and you have the secret to success for Capriotti’s Sandwich Shop. The company’s Thanksgiving-themed signature sandwich—fresh roasted turkey topped with stuffing, cranberry sauce, and mayo—has differentiated the company from the competition since it started as a neighborhood mom and pop 37 years ago in, Wilmington, Del. Today, the reputation of the so-called Bobbie sandwich has spread wide enough for it to be voted the “Greatest Sandwich in America” by thousands of readers, as reported by AOL.com.

Today, with some 90 stores in 12 states, the company still maintains its method of slow-roasting turkey and roast beef overnight before serving it fresh the next day. It is known for attracting customers who like variety in gourmet-style food made with fresh ingredients. The menu includes hot and cold subs, cheese steaks, and signature creations, such as the Bobbie.

And Bobbie’s reputation is spreading even farther from its Delaware beginnings with Capriotti’s recent growth spurt. Just this year, it is opening new stores in Houston, Scottsdale, Ariz., and Las Vegas (where the company is now headquartered). The brand is about to plant its footprint in Utah with its first store there; and just this month, it announced expansion into the Washington, D.C., market, where it will bring a total of 12 units to Montgomery County, Maryland, Northern Virginia, and Washington, D.C. over the coming years.

The total investment necessary to begin operation of a Capriotti’s Sandwich Shop restaurant ranges from $197,000 to $427,500. And the company is seeking developers who want to operate three or more restaurants in addition to single-store owners.

CEO Ashley Morris told Franchise Chatter in 2011 that Capriotti’s goal was to reach 300 units in five years. One way the company is building brand awareness is through recognition in trade media. Franchise Chatter named it one of the top “Under the Radar” franchises of 2012. Most recently, the top franchise was named one of Fast Casual magazine’s “Top 100 Mover and Shakers.”
