You have done some very thorough research on Yougurtland. I’m interested in knowing how long the franchise has been in business, hom any total stores are in the US, is the company operating the teh red and what is their long term strategy? How do I find this information?
Hi platinumads,
Thank you for being a new member of Franchise Chatter’s FDD Talk.
Yogurtland was formed on November 13, 2006. As of the end of 2011, Yogurtland had 146 stores, but according to Larry Sidoti in our most recent interview (posted on June 16 this year), they now have 185 stores. Yogurtland is solidly profitable, earning a net income of $3,707,674 in 2011 (up from $3,197,892 in 2010, and $2,518,271 in 2009). As for their long-tern strategy, check out my 2-part interview with Larry Sidoti starting here: http://www.franchisechatter.com/2012/06/16/one-year-later-catching-up-with-larry-sidoti-vp-of-development-for-yogurtland-part-1/ (although Larry is keeping the specifics close to his chest, for competitive reasons).
Please check your email. I’ll be sending you more information on Yogurtland shortly.
Best regards,
Ambrosio
Do you have this same information for Menchie’s? Do you have a comparative analysis of this information across multiple FroYo franchises?
Hi Carissa,
We do have an FDD Talk on Menchie’s as well, but the company only discloses gross revenue figures, not operating expenses and profits. And since our FDD Talk is based on Item 19, we can only analyze what each franchisor chooses to disclose. Yogurtland is the only major fro-yo franchise to our knowledge that provides this much information on operating profits.
Please visit our Archives section to check out all the frozen yogurt franchises we’ve covered — we have an FDD Talk for many of them. For as long as they have an Item 19 disclosure, we do our best to analyze them.
Best regards,
Ambrosio
When do you think that you will have the numbers for 2012? Do you suspect a downturn at all? Seems like many of the local yogurt chains are pretty much getting phased out.
Sincerely,
Alex
Hi Alex,
I expect the 2013 FDDs to be made public sometime during the spring or summer. I wouldn’t be surprised if the average gross sales figures retreat a bit as more and more stores open up. I do think the major national brands like Yogurtland will hold up better than the local mom-and-pop chains.
I will reach out to Yogurtland over the next few weeks to request for their 2013 FDD. Will keep you posted.
Best regards,
Ambrosio
