The Key Differences Between Anytime Fitness Clubs and Anytime Fitness Express Clubs

  • Based in Hastings, Minnesota, Anytime Fitness LLC started offering Anytime Fitness franchises in October 2002, and Anytime Fitness Express franchises in October 2006.
  • An Anytime Fitness center typically occupies 4,000 to 5,000 square feet of space, while an Anytime Fitness Express center typically requires less than 3,500 square feet.
  • An Anytime Fitness Express center is typically placed in a town with a population of less than 5,000 people.
  • In all cases, Anytime Fitness LLC will decide whether a particular location qualifies as an Anytime Fitness center or an Anytime Fitness Express center.
  • The initial franchise fee for an Anytime Fitness center is $26,999 while the initial franchise fee for an Anytime Fitness Express center is $20,999.
  • If a current franchisee operating an Anytime Fitness center wants to open an Anytime Fitness Express center, the initial franchise fee is reduced to $15,999.  If the new Express Center is within the protected territory of the franchisee’s existing club, the initial franchise fee is reduced further to $14,999.
  • The monthly royalty fee for an Anytime Fitness center is $499 a month, while the monthly royalty for an Anytime Fitness Express center is just $449 a month.
  • The estimated initial investment for an Anytime Fitness center ranges from $71,599 to $353,900, while the equivalent range for an Anytime Fitness Express center is $56,299 to $263,999.  The difference lies primarily in the cost of real estate and improvements ($12,400 to $191,300 for an Anytime Fitness center vs. $5,700 to $131,100 for an Anytime Fitness Express center) and fitness equipment ($10,900 to $44,700 for an Anytime Fitness center vs. $7,500 to $25,600 for an Anytime Fitness Express center).
  • The estimated initial expense for real estate and improvements assumes a leased space.  An Anytime Fitness center should have at least 3,500 square feet of space, and no more than 5,500 square feet is recommended.  An Anytime Fitness Express center would generally have 2,500 to 3,500 square feet.
  • Rent for these locations will typically vary from $10.00 to $25.00 per square foot per year.
